Surveys of Underground Oil Mills in Salento for Preserving Art and History
Archimeter has conducted several laser scanner surveys of underground oil mills in Salento, rich historical structures associated with grain preservation and oil production.
Originally built for grain storage, these structures were converted to produce oil after being influenced by Byzantine culture. The oil was primarily exported to major European cities and used as fuel for street lighting or as an ingredient in soap production. Specifically, Archimeter has performed a laser scanner survey of an oil mill located in Melpignano, capturing a textured point cloud.
The collected data has been used to generate detailed 2D outputs, including plans at different levels and sections, as well as a 3D mesh model for structural studies.
Trust Archimeter's expertise to preserve and study these valuable historical artifacts.
